the brothers lawrence
i was having a conversation with lindsay the other day about the lawrence brothers (as responsible young professionals and masters degree candidates so often do) and their collective imdb rap sheets turned out to be a gold mine of useless information. specifically, i had no idea that at one time the disney channel really went all out on creating a frere de lawrence empire, the titles of all the...
suggestions?
i have to conduct a conversation class with a group of students tomorrow (korean folks mostly in their 20s and 30s). any suggestions for a current topic?
a little video i made with some scraps on my camera. here are some things ive been doing in seoul lately
malty:
What makes a good beer?
Is it the amount of hops? Perhaps some caramelized malt? Or the abilityto beer bong five beers with no backlash? There is no fancy lingo needed… what makes a good beer to you? Just curious
this queston is especially painful for me now, considering the lack of decent beer here in korea. id have to say winter makes a great beer. the seasonals are just perfect; all...
decision
so i dont think im gonna post audio on this blog anymore. if you wanna hear some of the stuff ive been listening to lately, head on over to my other home on the internets tune in. today i posted a bonus song from ‘foals’ a band i raved about a few posts below this one.

thought
when it rains in this city, i half expect to run into harrison ford fighting a replicant
opinion
attention korea: red beans are just that - beans. as such, they have no place being in desserts. to reiterate; beans do not belong in desserts.
i cant say enough about this band. its like battles had a baby with oingo boingo. rhythmic minimalism is awesome, especially when they recontextualize one riff like 8 times in one song.
halloween memories
*this was going to be my entry for winona’s super cool halloween memory writing contest, but the story has already been submitted by a far funnier person than i.*
with the exception of one as ‘acceptably mediocre’, my college halloweens fall pretty clearly into the category of ‘sucked’. on paper, the college version of this holiday seems like it materialized out of a...

justice. tiny, hilarious justice.
i just spent 2 hours of class talking to an outrageously sexist korean dude about the show he chose to help him improve his english - gilmore girls.
book club
henry: (meg and mladen) started a book club. i need to read 200 pages of lolita by wednesday. i feel like im in high school again.
me: no kidding. just do like you did in high school and read the sparknotes. then high five the third string cornerback.
henry: i think so. then accuse my teacher of communism and request an alternative assignment. i was such a douchebag.
chrome
i know im way behind the technological curve on this one (as per usual) but does anyone have any thoughts on google chrome? im considering the switch.

the billdozer
freshman year of college, my friend eric lived down the hall from me. erics roommate (a decision courtesy of the mysterious oracles that inhabit university housing and dining services) was a young man named bill. bill was nice enough, albeit a little on the awkward side: he had the posture of a question mark, a serious love of anime, and a counterstrike habit that was borderline concerning....
there is nothing more soul-satisfying than the first succulent bite into the...
– vincent price. apparently he was quite the gourmet, even penning his own cookbooks (one of which contained a recipe for something called banana pancake flambe stonehenge). read more in a cool slate article on it here.
let's move past the important issues..

and remember, though november fourth might be significant, life altering and affects the country and world, that November 18th needs some mention. This is the day, my friends, that Wall-e can be welcomed into every American’s home, bringing with him a sense of hope and optimism that no presidential candidate can do.

evil dead: the musical
The filters on the path between cultures, particularly those as physically disparate as Asia and America, sometimes allow the most wonderfully unpredictable things to pass through. This is particularly true of the entertainment market. A certain amount of novel silliness is almost a prerequisite for most of the movies or shows that manage to complete the long trip; just take a look at the first...

all the kings men
so i finally got around to watching all the kings men, a movie i had been meaning to watch since the novel made the cut as my book-on-cd choice for the epic solo drive i made back home from oregon (on a side note - it was narrated by benjamin linus from lost. creepy.). megs husband mladen tackled this behemoth earlier in the year, and talking with him reminded me of my need to check it off my...
