Photo Set of the Day: During this past September’s five-day long UN meeting, New Yorker staff photographer Platon set up a makeshift studio next to the UN General Assembly floor and tried to get as many world leaders as possible to sit for him.

since i constantly have my agents scouring the globe for fine articles of historical or artistic significance, im happy to report that one has found a particularly interesting piece in some far flung corner of indochina.
ok, actually my brother is in cambodia on a business thing and he happened into a music shop filled with treasures. ive casually been in the mandolin market for a while now and though i dont condone colonization, i do condone the fine french craftsmanship that just happened to be on the same clipper as all that slaughter and oppression. an excerpt from the email he sent me announcing his triumphant purchase reads, ‘this mandolin is what the surfing commander in apocalypse now would have been strumming if he had been playing a mandolin instead of a guitar in that campfire scene (is that actually in the movie or am i imagining that). put a few human ears on your strap and it will be complete’.
